Class Description 

Learn to paper piece the Judy Niemeyer way. Pocket Compass is fast, fun, and easy, made with larger  pieces that go together quickly. The top finishes at 40x40 and is a gorgeous baby quilt or wall hanging  that will quickly become a favorite. Want to make it bigger? Let Jeanette show you options…all the way  up to 118”!

Pocket Compass at The Sewing Corner 

July 12th, 2025 

Supply List 

∙ Pocket Compass pattern by Quiltworx.com - $24.50 (includes all foundation papers,  Template Layout Sheets and directions). 

∙ Three – One Gallon size Ziploc style plastic bags to organize your papers and fabrics. ∙ Box of Jumbo trombone style paper clips (regular paper clips, just bigger. Available at  Staples, Office Depot, any office supply. Not the giant paper clips, these are about 2”. ∙ Repositionable Glue Stick 

∙ Fabric glue pen (optional, but very useful!) Fon’s and Porter or Sewline recommended. ∙ Template Plastic (3" by 12" piece) for fold template. Cardstock can also be used. 

General Sewing Supplies: 

∙ 12" Add-a-quarter ruler (Optional, but highly recommended) 

∙ 6" x 12" ruler 

∙ Medium size cutting mat (18" x 24") 

∙ Rotary cutter 

∙ Coordinating Thread 

∙ Flower head pins (recommended) or pins of your choice ∙ Scissors 

∙ Seam Ripper 

∙ Sewing Machine in good working order with quarter-inch foot (no guard). 

Fabrics: 

∙ Fabric will depend on your fabric placement/selection. A line drawing with each fabric  choice is included in the pattern. 

Please have your papers and fabrics cut out before class. A link to a Zoom video with  step-by-step cutting directions will be available when you sign up for class. We will not  have time to cut out papers in class. Previous students have suggested that you allow  yourself between 5 and 10 hours to cut out papers and fabrics (your mileage may vary),  so please don’t leave this to the last minute.
